Gael Cherry is a ceramic artist based in her garden studio, where she creates botanical-inspired ceramics that celebrate the beauty, texture and forms found in nature.
She trained at the University of Derby, gaining a BA (Hons) in Applied Arts, and later achieved a Certificate in Education. She went on to teach for 20 years before retiring from education to focus on her own creative practice. She now combines making with teaching, offering small-group ceramics workshops and retreat days from her garden studio, as well as workshops in community settings.
Nature is at the heart of her work. Her practice includes vessels, wall pieces, large chargers, succulent pebbles and impressed pendants, alongside larger coiled forms. She works primarily in grogged stoneware clay, using coloured slips, underglazes, oxides and textured glazes to create richly tactile surfaces.
