Tracey Coverley is a professional textile artist based in Whaley Bridge, on the edge of the Peak District in Derbyshire. Working under the name Handmade In Horwich End, a practice established in 2016.
Originally trained as a painter back in the ‘80’s, Tracey is currently obsessed with textile portraiture and popular culture creating sculptural work using quilting, reverse applique, and free hand machine stitching techniques.
Working with a limited palette of mostly recycled fabrics, Tracey excavates her portraits from what is essentially a pile of rags, simultaneously building up layers of line through stitching freehand whilst cutting through layers and removing fabric.
