Portrait of a miner active in the late C20 Nottingham and North East Mines. Upon leaving school he started working at the brick flats near the Morrison and Busty coal mine in Stanley County Durham at the end of the 1940s. In the 1950s he progressed to work underground at the colliery. He eventually became a coal face worker, he stayed at this colliery till 1969 when he transferred to the Ollerton Colliery in Nottinghamshire due to the closure of the North East coal mines.
