As Ashbourne comes alive for Ashbourne’s Big Fashion Day Out, Hopton Hall Gallery is celebrating textiles, stitch, craft and contemporary art with a special meet the artist afternoon.
We’re delighted to welcome five talented makers to the gallery, giving visitors the opportunity to meet the artists, discover their work and hear more about the ideas, techniques and practice behind their creative practices.
Joining us will be:
Steph Jansen – Wet Felter, whose beautiful felted work explores colour, texture and the diversity of working with wool and fibre.
Alison Wake – Hand Stitch Painter, bringing together stitch, colour and painterly expression in distinctive textile artworks.
Laura Burrill – Stitch in Ashbourne Quilt, celebrating the creativity and community spirit of Ashbourne through stitch and collaborative textile making.
Ingrid Katarina Karlsson - Mixed Media - Landscape, memory, symbolism.
Elizabeth Forrest - a lettering artist, combining hand-made paper with painted lettering, to interpret text in a visually exciting and sensitive way.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore the current exhibitions, Steph Jansen and Surface: Stitch and Story (Texture & Textiles), featuring the work of Elizabeth Forrest, Denise Coupland, Dianne Gill, Ingrid Katarina Karlsson, Alison Wake , Stitching Ashbourne and Phillip Evans Pottery.
The afternoon provides a wonderful opportunity to see how textiles, art and making connect, while discovering the skill, patience and imagination behind handmade work.
With Ashbourne’s Big Fashion Day Out taking place in the town centre on the same day, it’s the perfect time to make Hopton Hall Gallery part of your afternoon. We’re delighted to be one of the sponsors of this exciting community event, and we warmly invite you to pop in between the catwalks whether you’re taking part in the fashion celebrations or simply enjoying the atmosphere.
