Katherine Stephenson British

Katherine Stephenson is a fused glass artist with a specific interest in semi-abstract layered landscapes. She work in innovate ways to use glass as a medium to capture movement, colour and texture, creating unique reactions and  painterly effects. In addition to wall art, Katherine also create one off statement pieces.

The artist's work has developed conceptually to convey a strong sense of place in the viewer's mind. Created solely from layered glass and kiln-fired multiple times, each unique landscape expresses the essence and spirit of a location, offering a clear suggestion of a scene while allowing space for personal, subjective interpretation.

Inspired by wild, rugged landscapes, striking rock formations, and expansive, dramatic skies, the artist draws on numerous photographs taken on location to capture the land's natural features. These observations inform and shape the resulting glass artworks. The nature of fused glass allows each piece to appear subtly different as light and surroundings change. More recently, the artist has begun incorporating pure silver into the work, using the chemical reactions that occur between certain types of glass and silver during firing to create distinctive and expressive effects within the landscapes.
